Kayaking with the Goddess of Water
I just developed my panoramic roll of film from my trip to NC, and thought I would add it to my blog. Almost the entire roll is from my first full day in NC, kayaking with Kelly to Carrot Island and around the Beaufort sound.
It was wonderful to just sit back and relax as the water moved you along. The wild horses even came out to greet us on the shores of Carrot Island as the sun was setting behind the island. This was one of the best trips I've had on so many levels.
This was the first time I had been kayaking, and I think I'm hooked! I'm looking into buying a kayak and just paddling around Lake Phalen which is where I run during the warmer seasons. There's something about water that makes me feel at home and relaxed, like nothing else does. This wasn't always true, as some of you know, I was afraid of water for a good portion of my life. And it seems the longer I am away from it the more the fear returns. Kelly can testify that I was nervous when we first got into the kayaks and moved away from shore, but after about 5 minutes, I was back to enjoying the water.
We tried to cut through a passageway of water at low tide and ended up getting stuck in shallow water. At one point Kelly had to get out of the kayak and lift it to get it unstuck. The picture below is Kelly, the Goddess of Water, walking on it!! It was great kayaking with Kelly and I hope we can do it again this summer!
